Wave Form

Fast forward three decades later, Mission Community College is undergoing a total makeover. The old main building is to be demolished.

As Director of Maintenance and Operations, relocating existing artwork is my responsibility. I joined the campus art committee. One art piece proves challenging to relocate. A faction of the faculty debates its removal instead of relocation.

Not long after the debate started, another sculpture was donated to the campus, and it was given a prominent location at one of the campus entrances, thus relegating the older work to obscurity.

The artist, Bruce Beasley, and I discovered we studied under sculptor Professor Voulkos when placing the new art piece. For an unconscious reason, the coincidence sparked my interest in comparing the old and new pieces. The new piece, intuitively, I understand. It concerns interconnected wholeness.
