Principle: Tilting: Crack the whip
Pushing hands with Sifu was never boring, especially when his desire for his advanced students lost to win. It fulfilled him somehow, and in turn, he became very generous. One of the things he would show during these moments of joy was when to crack the whip.
The metaphor, cracking the whip, is a unique energy transfer during push-hands. Creating the whip-like action in the body was a hybrid movement composed of stabilization, basic An, push, and Choi, uprooting. Joint linkages formed that appeared as a "wave." When in a good mood, Sifu would deconstruct a push hand to show where to use whip-like action to push and uproot the opponent.
With slow, accurate precision, Sifu would demonstrate how the whip could be used to incapacitate or injure someone if need be. Like the devastation caused by a blow during tilt, cracking the whip injured the connective tissue along the spine. When practiced as play, the move was a sure winner. But it was "Black Hand," a move meant to cause serious damage in an altercation.
